Revlon Whimsical VS Deborah Lippmann Glitter In The Air; Comparison, Swatches, Review

If you are a polish fanatic, you've probably read that Revlon has a new-ish color, 'Whimsical', that looks a whole lot like Deborah Lippmann's 'Glitter In The Air'.  G.I.T.A is probably one of my favorite polishes in my collection.  Before I finally bit the bullet and bought it last year, I was having dreams about it.  Not wanting to spend $18 on one polish, I kept resisting.  Eventually it was too much and I gave in!  It holds a special place in my heart since I dreamt of it for so long.

I have a crush on Deborah Lippmann bottles, so naturally I prefer that one as far as packaging goes, but the product inside is almost identical:

Here is a comparison of the two.  I did 2 layers of each.  What's that you say?  You are grossed out by my heinous cuticle injury? (Damn you cardboard boxes!!) Please try to avert your eyes away from that and focus on the splendid polishes:

I honestly cannot tell the difference.  If I didn't make a mental note to keep track of which polish I was putting on which fingers, I wouldn't know any better.  Application was the same for both- pretty good for a glitter polish. You do have to be "aware" of the glitter that you pick up with each stroke (go back in for more if there is not enough on your brush) but both are very smooth finish-wise.

Here is my right hand, wearing only Revlon Whimsical:

If this polish was around a year ago, I could have saved myself $14.  For one reason or the other, this particular Revlon is not as easy to find as the others.  Being new to New Jersey, I immediately stopped in "Harmon Discount Beauty" as soon as I drove by it to explore, and low and behold- there was Whimsical.  If you have a Harmon store nearby, and also happen to have a hankering for Glitter In The Air, give Whimsical a try!

  3. That;s an awesome find! You saved me some money because I am not close to anywhere that sells Deborah Lipman so I would order it online plus a bunch of stuff I don't need :)

  5. Wow...talk about separated at birth, lol! I'm with you: a total sucker for pretty packaging and it also seems to me that perhaps Whimsical has a wee bit more of the copper ultra-fine shimmer than the Lippmann holds, but other than that, I can't tell them apart! I really love the Lippmann formula, however, and the fact that it has some extra nourishing ingredients thrown in - something I'm sure the Revlon doesn't, plus, I already own the Lippmann so at least that lemming is fulfilled! PS: if you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't even have noticed the cuticles - too busy looking at the great swatches! :)

  9. I literally just picked this up "by accident" at Rite Aid because I thought it was pretty. I generally research my polishes when I get them home and realized that I had something special - lol. BTW, this is the best comparison post of these two on the web. Nice job!

  12. I ordered my Whimsical online - when it arrived I found it greenish - I thought it was supposed to be bluish. I love it, but hate that the base seems to be getting even more greenish with age.

  13. Wow, you're right. They are pretty much identical. And we can get Revlon here in Tasmania, Australia, at a very reasonable price sometimes, whereas we can't get Deborah Lippman here, so I'd have to buy that from overseas. I know which one I'll be buying.
