Revlon "Sheer Seafoam" Nail Polish New For Spring/Summer 2012 Escapism Collection (Pictures)

Today I am wearing a new Revlon nail polish that I picked up last night- "Sheer Seafoam" is part of a limited edition display that they currently have out called "Escapism- The Spring/Summer Collection by Gucci Westman" (Westman is a makeup artist/cosmetic designer).  I was drawn to this color because it reminded me of one of my lemmings, Rescue Beauty Lounge "Bikini Bottom".

Anytime I am going to wear a sheer polish, I use Seche Ridge Filling Base Coat- not only does it help fill in imperfections, it also has a white-ish base that helps build up color:

'Sheer' is an understatement in this case! This is 3 coats and it is still barely visible...just a slight blue tint really:

I expected something with 'Seafoam' in the name to make me think of tropical islands...instead, I'm left with nails that look like I've been out in the cold too long:

So I decided to try a glitter-jelly sandwich.  Once these layers dried, I applied one coat of CND's "Sugar Sparkle", which is a clear, crushed flake type glitter.  Once that dried, I did one more layer of "Sheer Seafoam", then a layer of Seche Vite to dry it all:

Despite all the layers (7 in total with base and top coats!  Are you kidding me?!), this dried fairly quickly with Seche Vite's help.  ****EDITED TO ADD**** This totally faked me out!  I thought it was dry, but here I am 2 hrs later with dents all over the place!  I did paint my nails, then took a shower/got dressed, so I would advise against that.  These did feel dry to the touch when I posted, but clearly they were no way NEAR being done!****The end result here reminds me of sea glass, which I do like.  I wish that 'Seafoam' was a smidge more opaque though.  Oh well!  You can't love them all I guess ;-)

  1. Wow! I hate when that happens. Or it looks totally different than the bottle color like this. It looks best with the effects polish over it for sure!

  2. Despite its sheerness, I am still very intrigued by this. Haven't seen it around here (metro Detroit, Michigan) yet.

    1. Haha Karen, that's exactly how I felt! I'm still trying to figure out ways to layer this to make it wearable!

  3. The end result looks nice. Also, I always shower and stuff before I paint my nails so that doesn't happen :P

    1. LOLZ, I usually don't do it in that order (or if I do, it's not after 7 layers!!)...I should definitely know better!

  4. Ok....WOW! When I saw the colour in the bottle, I was practically drooling...SO my type of summer hue (and I missed out on Bikini Bottom too, which made this even more alluring!). But you had me laughing hysterically with your "out in the cold too long" nails....that's exactly what it looks like there: hypothermia chic! Lol! Your glitter sandwich, however, is TO DIE FOR - so love the look of sea glass (anything beach/sea related, really) but 7 coats? Rats! Still, it's a beauty!

  5. It is super sheer, but looks really pretty on you! When you added the sparkle it reminds me of Revlon's Colada Fizz! I'm totes gonna look for the SV Ridge filler!

    1. You will love this base coat! It's good to use on stain-prone polishes as well!

  6. Wow... I've never seen something that's supposed to be an actual color (as opposed to the kind of sheer you'd wear for a French manicure) have so little pigment in it. Strike that. Even the sheer I got for French manicures (Essie's Sugar Daddy) has more pigment with 3 coats than this does. Thanks for letting us know to stay away!

    1. LOL, exactly Leisel! I've also seen french manicure polishes that have more color!

  7. I still see the possibility in Sheer Seafoam... as in your new Essie wedding collection as undies??? hmmm hmm?? Lemme know if you try any! And I agree- the Jelly Sandwich end result is super cute but wow 7layers! xo E

  8. I'm not sure why they would bother to make a watery polish like this. I feel like mainstream (non nail fanatic) customers wouldn't like this AT ALL. Even as a nail fanatic, I think this is a waste. But of course, I'm still intrigued by it! Hahaha.

    1. Totally agree, at least with us polish freaks (freaks, being a term of endearment here) we can usually try to see the potential in a color with layering etc. "Regular" nail polishers would hate this! This is the sort of color I would throw away (gasp!) before I became a hoarder!

  9. That is unbelievably sheer. Just want to add you do the best swatches.

  10. Your mani looks great! I'm glad you showed how sheer it is -- I'll probably pass on this one knowing that, whereas I was totally down to buy a teal jelly before I knew how little color it transfers. Really helpful post!

  11. i have been wearing a lot of glitter sandwiches a lot lately with sheers. Too bad this Revlon was not a bit more into the true sheer family! I was wanting a blue sheer since the OPI NYC Ballet did not come with a blue in it.

  12. I really loved your glitter sandwich! I can't believe this polish was so sheer though. I'm like you, I really like sheers and LIVE for a vnl if it looks good, but sometimes it just doesn't look right. Also, I lol'd at "left out in the cold too long!" Your hands do look freezing in that pic!

  13. I saw this at Ulta today and I almost bought it. I'm glad I waited and found your review. Bummer it's so sheer.

  14. Hey, if you don't need the Seafoam, I would pick it from you. I have been dying to get a bluish sheer nail polish, and can't find any!
