Mariah Carey by OPI Collection for Spring 2013 featuring Liquid Sand Lacquers (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

I'm very excited to share today's photos with you! OPI has collaborated with superstar Mariah Carey for a unique and beautiful collection of 8 nail lacquers, each as unique and multifaceted as Mariah herself.

Confession time: I am a Mariah fan, and it goes way back to the early 90's. Mariah's self titled debut album came out in 1990, which made me 11 at the time. For my birthday that year, I requested the cassette tape and I would wear my Walkman while riding my bike around my neighborhood, singing along to Vision Of Love, Someday, Love Takes Time, and I Don't Wanna Cry. I also may or may not have written and directed my siblings in a Mariah-themed musical, the venue- my parent's basement. Don't judge. I was a weird 11yr old.

Mariah Carey OPI Collection

First, let's get a little Mariah playing to get you in the mood. This one is one of my recent (last few years) favs- "Obsessed":

Does this woman even age? I love her makeup in that video!

So lets get this started with the new "Liquid Sand" lacquers in the collection. This is a new type of nail polish technology from OPI, debuting in this collection for the first time. This effect-type polish says it "dries to a textured matte finish infused with reflective glints of light".  To be honest, I thought I was not going to dig these at all. I have texture "issues" when it comes to my nails- I don't like feeling anything on them. The thing that saved these for me is two-fold: first, the texture is not bad. Not scratchy or overly chunky. You can definitely feel more grit than a 'normal' creme polish, but there aren't jagged shards waiting to snag your sweater (<<what I pictured).  Secondly, these colors are BEAUTIFUL.  Just look and see what I mean:

This first one is Get Your Number. This looks like your blue nails were dipped into sparkly sugar! In fact, most of these reminded me of candy.  3 layers shown here:

Of course I had to see what these looked like all shined up, so here is Get Your Number with 2 layers of topcoat:

Next is The Impossible, a strawberry jam liquid sand color with different sized glitters (and some stars too!) 3 layers:
OPI The Impossible

And The Impossible with 2 layers of topcoat:

Then we have Can't Let Go, a purple glitter liquid sand that once again reminds me of candy and sugar. Grape candy! 3 layers:

And Can't Let Go with 2 layers of topcoat:

Then we have my favorite from this half, Stay The Night. Holy hell, this is a stunner and super unique! The black 'sand' base dries down to a matte finish, but the bright reddish-pink glitters sparkle through. Very reminiscent of embers glowing in a campfire once you put it out and it's still in that smoldering phase. Yes, 'smoldering' is the perfect word for this!! 3 layers:

Next, we'll move onto the 'regular' half of this collection!
Anti Bleak is a creamy plum beaut with fantastic coverage. I could almost get away with one layer of this. So shiny! 2 layers:
OPI Anti Bleak

Then there's Sprung, a bronze/golden/pink shimmer polish. This was so cool and reminded me of a Spring version of last year's "Warm & Fozzie" (OPI's Muppets Collection). 3 layers:
OPI Sprung

Next is my 2nd favorite, A Butterfly Moment. Nude! Pink! Shimmer!  Everything I love in a neutral polish!  2 layers:
OPI A Butterfly Moment

Lastly, we have the glitter polish Pink Yet Lavender, a clear based polish with pink hex glitters and teeny iridescent holographic lavender glitters. 1 layer shown on top of A Butterfly Moment. I'm in complete neutral/glitter polish love with this combo:

In Conclusion: This collection is innovative and fun.  I had zero expectations for the Liquid Sand and I ended up really loving them, and because of the colors, I don't mind some texture.

Shimmer Nail Polish Part 2: Kelly, Kim, Amy, Nichole, & Elsa (Pictures/Swatches)

I'm back to swaching after the holidays and I have Part 2 of my Shimmer Polish review to share with you today! (See part 1 here)

First up is Kelly, a clear based glitter with green and gold glitters and a touch of holographic pieces.  Shown here over light green creme (Julep Courteney):

Kim is next and she is so gorgeous!  A blue-purple-holo glitter mix (shown here over OPI Into The Night). Damn. I love this combo:

Amy is shown below over Nicole by OPI Spring Break. This glitter has a cool pinkish, red combo with what looks like pastel blue mixed in. So pretty and different:

Nichole is a clear base with blue, red, and silvery holo glitters. Very patriotic ;)  I layered this over silver (Sally Hansen Celeb City) and I love how it turned out:

Lastly, we have Elsa, a mainly red and gold based glitter with touches of blue. I just love this one too (shown over red jell-creme, Julep Catherine):

I always love seeing the creativity that Cindy, the mind behind Shimmer Polish, puts into each bottle. The glitter combinations are always unique and beautiful, and above all they apply perfectly- I've had the opportunity to try quite a few of these now, and each and every one has been superb formula-wise. Twinsie Tuesday: The Christmas Edition

Since the holiday falls on a Tuesday this year, it was the perfect time for us to do our Twinsie Tuesday Christmas inspired manicures!

When I was swatching Zoya's new Lovely collection, the polish Jacqueline reminded me of eggnog. I just had to use it for my Christmas nails!

I wanted to keep things simple so I went with a 'dotticure' (dotted manicure). I was going for a holly berry type look with the red & green, and then I added a trail of gold across the top of the nail.  I used Zoya Jacqueline for the base, the green is Zoya Logan, the gold is Zoya Ziv and the red is CND:

Don't forget to see what the rest of the Twinsies did this week!  We are also welcoming the newest Twinsie, Jamie of "Polish Please" to our lineup! Welcome Jamie!!

Zoya Lovely Collection (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Happy Christmas Eve to those who celebrate!!

Today I have Zoya's  Lovely Collection (new for Spring 2013) to show you!  Yes, we are in the middle of the holidays right now, but I am already looking forward to Spring and all the colors that come with it. This collection epitomizes Spring to me- pastels in cremes and shimmers done perfectly by Zoya:

Here are some pictures of them on!

Piaf is a really pretty color and difficult to describe. Is it yellow? Gold? Do I see green in this?  Let's check in with Zoya for the exact description:  "Fresh Forsynthia yellow metallic" is how they describe it, and that sounds about right to me. This shimmer polish covered completely in just 2 layers. Fantastic formula:

Next is Gei Gei (or is it 'Gie Gie' as my bottle says?  The press release says Gei Gei, so I will go with that for now),  a perfect, cool toned pink shimmer ("blushing cherry blossom metallic" says Zoya). Beautiful coverage, again in just 2 layers:
Zoya Gei Gei

Then there is Julie (is it me, or is this one of the most 'normal' named Zoyas? :)  Julie is a cool lavender metallic shimmer polish ("soft wisteria"- Zoya)
Zoya Julie

Blu is next, and OMG- you need this polish. Not only is it a pastel in the prettiest soft baby blue shade ("hyacinth blue creme"- Zoya), it applies super smooth and even. NO streaking whatsoever, which you know is almost always an issue with these types of shades. Fantastic coverage in just 2 layers of polish on this one as well:
Zoya Blu

Neely is a "Spring green" creme polish.  It's cool and minty and very wearable. With a jelly-creme consistency, this applied very nicely in 2 layers as well:
Zoya Neely

Lastly, we have Jacqueline. This color is described by Zoya as "magnolia nude creme". So completely beautiful and shiny. Maybe it's because it's Christmas Eve as I type this, but this color reminds me of eggnog! (Look for my post tomorrow where I will use it as the base for my Christmas nail art!).  Very great coverage in 2 layers of polish, however I did 3 for this photo below:
Zoya Jacqueline

Super stellar collection from Zoya!  These colors make me look forward to Spring and all that will come with it!
