Twinsie Tuesday: Inspired By Ethnicity/Nationality/Flag

Happy Tuesday!  For today's Twinise theme, our challenge was creating a manicure inspired by ethnicity, nationality, and/or a flag.  Since I am partly Irish, I decided to go with Ireland's flag, the Irish tricolor (green, white, and orange):

I used Julep Emilie (green), Wet N Wild French White, and Zoya Thandie (orange).

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsie's:

Orly Peaceful Opposition Nail Polish (Pictures & Swatches)

Hi friends! Wow, I've been on a mini blog hiatus this past week, but I'm back in business now!  Here's a quick look at a polish I am really loving- Orly Peaceful Opposition from their latest Spring collection. It has a sheer white base with silver square & hex glitters. It gives you the look of a "glitter/jelly sandwich" in just one step. As you may expect with a polish this glitter heavy, it is a bit on the thick side. I used 2 layers here. Good news- once it's dried, it has a nice shiny finish :

So there you have it! Hope you are having a fantastic weekend filled with sunshine & nail polish!

Julep Maven May Preview!!! (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided for review.

Howdy! Today I have a preview of the upcoming colors for Julep's May Maven Boxes!  This month's theme is inspired by the 1920's and the upcoming movie, "The Great Gatsby". How cool, right??

I'll break these down by box themes...

Bombshell Maven Box: (also comes with a trio of lip colors)

Zelda (pink champange metallic) is one of the best behaved metallic polishes I've ever worked with. This color is reminiscent of rose gold with a hint of silver too. Loved the formula- it gave great coverage in 1 layer and dried quick as well!

Gabrielle (Smoky Mulberry creme) is a gorgeous polish. A decadent and sultry ink shade.

It Girl Maven Box:

(This one also comes with a third polish, a glitter named Paris, that I don't have right now)

Clara (Opaque Peach Creme) is the sweetest peachy shade. This one was so opaque too, with almost zero streaks!  A beautiful neutral that will bring you right from Spring into Summer.

Coco (Oxblood creme) is a color that brings to mind power and sophistication.  100% luxurious.

Boho Glam Maven Box:

Alice (Antique Lilac Shimmer) is soft, feminine, and sweet. It looks like a sugared lilac in bloom. I love the subtle shimmer in this one

Millie (Vintage Indigo Creme). I just adore everything about this polish, from the deep, mysterious, creamy hue to the vintage name!  What's especially amazing is that I only needed one layer of polish for this photo!

Here's one of 3 lip colors that come in the Boho Glam box as well, Satin Doll (sheer poppy):
                                                                         Love the packaging!

This color is really pretty and subtle with the texture of a silky lip balm (shown on my hand here):

Classic With A Twist Maven Box: (also comes with a trio of lip colors)

Zora (a frosted pink pearl)- I don't have this one yet

Myrtle (Flapper red creme) is the quintessential 1920's nail color! A red polish that screams glamour! This polish is so shiny and sleek- loved the effortless application as well.

And then there is an "add on" option for the month:

Etta (Art Deco Lime Metallic) is a fresh, minty metallic with a subtle iridescence that twinkles and catches the light making it very hypnotizing!

While maybe not very "Spring-like", I think Julep did a great job at capturing the vibe of the 1920's with this color scheme. These polishes are all classic colors that can be used all year round!

As always, if you are interested in becoming a Julep Maven, you can use my referral link here to sign up; use the promo code PENNY at the checkout to try your first month for just one cent!

Have a great weekend <3

Zoya Stunning Collection New For Summer 2013! PLUS Earth Day Trade In Info! (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided for review.

Here's some more Summer fun from Zoya!  (My Summer Pixie Dust review can be seen here). This 6 polish "Stunning" collection is comprised of bright, fun cremes:

So here's the low down on each of the colors:

Darcy is pure sunshine in a bottle. Yellow creme with a fantastic, shiny formula (this is 2 layers of polish):

Thandie is a bright, medium orange creme. Again, this one has a  fantastic, low-streak and shine-tastic formula. (2 layers):

Micky is a pretty, bright warm pink creme. I *almost* want to say this is coral, but it's not quite. Love this color, but I needed 3 layers of polish for this one as the formula was on the thicker side:

Yana is a hot, hot pink!  Love this one!  Superb formula again, 2 layers shown here:

Josie is a slightly muted green creme. It's still bright but has a dusty quality to it that I just find so feminine and wearable (2 layers, fantastic formula on this one too):

Last, we have Rocky, a beautiful bright-yet-soft blue with the same dusty quality that Josie has. (2 layers):

Again, I had to do some nail art with these! Something about crisp, bright creme polishes just beg to be used for nail art :)  Here are some simple dots:

Today I have a wonderful, cheery summer collection from Barielle to show you!  The Summer Brights collection is made up of 5 polishes that are completely perfect for the warm weather. Sun, sand, surf.  Beach balls, towels, flip flops. These are the images that come to mind when I look at these colors:

Let's just jump in to some pictures, shall we?

Pink Flip Flops: a sweet, pop-tastic baby pink with a fantastic formula only 2 layers of polish gives you a completely shiny, full coverage look.

Cosmic Kiss: Hot pink creme with a ultra shiny finish. 2 layers shown on this one as well-

Sweet Addiction: a medium green creme polish that reminds me of the Green Monster at Fenway Park <3

The Green Monster- Fenway Park (source)

Blue Capri: A completely gorgeous medium blue creme. Reminds me a lot of Essie "Butler Please", but maybe a smidge more muted. Love it-

Lemondrops: a true, primary yellow creme that was fantastically easy to apply. 2 ish layers of polish gave a streak-free, shiny finish-

Of course, I needed to do a little nail art with these beautiful colors. I added angled dots on top of Lemondrop, and here's how it came out:

What do you think of these beauties? If you are in seek of some of the bright colored polish staples, the Summer Brights really have a top notch formula.  You can find these on Barielle's website!
Be sure to sign up for emails with them, as they offer great sales from time to time!

Twinsie Tuesday featuring Juelp Maven Boho Glam Box For April

Hi there. Today is Tuesday and our Twinsie Tuesday theme is "Fictional Animal Print".  We are able to interpret our themes any way we'd like, so I went with a giraffe print in bright colors.  I had my Julep Maven box for April waiting to be tried, so I used the colors (Lena & Kaylen) to do my manicure for today.

This month's Maven Box had 2 polishes and a cuticle serum (along with a rock candy lollipop! Love the little surprises Julep always throws in!):

I used Kaylen (bright orange that dries to a semi matte finish) with an accent nail of Lena (turquoise with gold shimmer):

Then, using a small nail art brush, I painted on some giraffe spots in alternating colors:

And the serum I received, Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum, looks really promising!  I will report back on my findings when I have had more of a chance to try this:

I can't wait to see what the other ladies did for this theme! Check them out with me:

China Glaze Glitz Bitz N Pieces: Scattered & Tattered Nail Polish (Pictures)

Here's a quick look at what I'm wearing on my nails today!  China Glaze released a collection of glitters called "Glitz Bitz N Pieces" earlier this year. Scattered & Tattered is from that collection. It is a clear based polish with black hex glitters in different sizes, black bar glitters, small black micro glitters and then different sized salmon-y, pink glitters (I've seen this described as red elsewhere, but it is definitely more muted). I used 2ish layers of Scattered & Tattered over a warm pink creme polish (Essie "Like To Be Bad"):

It gives  cool effect that reminds me of graffiti!

Have you tried any of the glitters from the "Glitz Bitz & Pieces" collection?  I was able to find this one in the sale bin at Sally's (they still had quite a few available).

Have a rockin' day!

NEW! Zoya Pixie Dust Summer Edition Nail Polish Collection (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Disclosure: Products in this post were provided for review

Look what just landed on my doorstep- Zoya's new Summer Edition Pixie Dust collection! If you are unfamiliar with Pixie Dust, it is a nail polish formula that dries to a matte finish, sometimes with glitter, sometimes without. You are left with a slightly textured finish. While some may speculate that this textured nail trend is just a fad, I have high hopes for it's longevity. Here's why- not only are these different enough without screaming a particular year/time period at you (I'm lookin' at you, 2011 and shatter/crackle!!) these textured polishes wear like iron for days on end with no chips, and that's an amazing quality for a lacquer to have when you are looking for a long-wearing mani. Also, if you ever tire of wearing these in their true, textured form, a simple layer (or 2!) of topcoat will transform them into a "normal" polish.

Because I cannot get enough of these polishes, I was so excited to see Zoya's collection, bright and bursting with happiness! Let's jump right into some swatches:

First is Solange, a super cheery yellow gold (2 layers shown here):

Next, Beatrix (a name that was in the running each time I was pregnant. I love old fashioned girls' names! Too bad I have only sons and never got to use it!). This orange is fresh and pretty. Something about having the texture in this somehow makes orange all the more wearable (2 layers):

Then there's Destiny, a juicy coral. Simply awesome. The sparkle that peeks through on this one is killer! (2 layers):

Next is the dusty violet beauty named Stevie. Spring has sprung with this color! (2 layers):

Next is the one I am wearing as a full manicure today- Miranda!  A sweet rosy mauve, the texture again bumps this up a notch, turning what would be a pretty common color into a funtastic time! (2 layers):

Lastly we have the Pixie Dust to top all Pixie Dusts- Liberty. I am not even a blue polish lover, and this one blew me away.  Bright, fresh, crisp medium blue with sparkle (2 layers):

And now for some fiery layering fun with Solange, Beatrix, & Destiny:

If I've said it once, I'll say it again- you need some Pixie Dust in your life. They are 100% fun!

You can purchase this collection on Zoya's website here (<<--this is a referral link; I earn points for each friend that opens a Zoya account).  If you haven't set up a Zoya account in the past and use my link to do so, you will receive a coupon in your new account (it will pop up under "coupons/promotions") for a FREE bottle of polish! (Tip: If you get 2 more bottles with your order, you will get FREE shipping too!). Once you are set up, you can then refer your friends to you own link as well!

Will you be trying any of these colors??
