China Glaze Texture Collection: In The Rough (Pictures, Swatches, & Review)

Today I am wearing one of the new-ish polishes from the China Glaze Texture collection.  It seems each brand has tapped into the texture trend lately (OPI Liquid Sand and Zoya Pixie Dust to name a few---even some drugstore brands as well!). I thought that these would be very similar to the others that I've tried, but I found this breed of texture to be quite different. First off, there is zero glitter to these and they are extremely matte--zero shine or shimmer. Second, upon application of the first layer of polish, I could visibly SEE the grit in the formula. Other textured polishes go on all glossy and smooth, and then dry down to a textured finish--you sort of get an idea of what the polish would look like if you put top coat on it afterwards . These China Glaze ones are pure texture, right out of the gate.

As I was completing my first polish layer, I was muttering to myself something to the effect of, "Hellz no....nope. Not diggin' this. Nuh-uh".  However, after I finished the second layer, something shifted inside of me. It looked really COOL!  This reminds me of a crazy colored "popcorn ceiling". Wouldn't you agree? In The Rough is a light chartreuse, yellowy green:

What do you think of this amount of texture on your nails?  I don't mind the slight roughness that textured polishes bring, so this was no biggie for me.  Are you growing tired of the texture trend, or are you still loving it?

Mermaid Nail Polish Layering

Since it's finally starting to feel a little bit like summer outside, I was itching to wear something mermaid-esque on my nails. Today's Nail-Of-The-Day is what you get when you layer Urban Outfitter's Sea Dust (a pretty close copy of Deborah Lippmann's Mermaid's Dream) on top of Nicole By OPI Candid Cameron. The deep, teal base pops through a little more in real life:

(I did just one layer of each polish)

What polish or polish combo would you use for mermaid nails??

Twinsie Tuesday: Transition From Spring To Summer

Tuesday is once again upon us, and with that comes a new Twinsie challenge. This week's theme was for us to show our "best polish to transition from Spring to Summer". I chose OPI "Guy Meets Gal-veston" from the Texas collection a few years back. This coral jelly polish is one of my absolute favs- it's jelly texture builds nicely without being too sheer, and leaves you with an insanely shiny finish! I love this as a transitional  polish because the color is bright without being neon, and fresh and juicy looking. 3 layers shown here:

Next, to snazz it up a little, I layered China Glaze "Electrify" on my ring finger, and topped it with one more layer of "Guy Meets Gal-veston" to sandwich in the glitter:

Nicole by OPI Gumdrops Collection (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

                                                                                                                                                  Press Sample

Today I have some new textured polishes from Nicole by OPI! This is their "Gumdrops" collection, and each of the polishes dries to a textured finish. I love the candy theme going on here:

Cinna-man Of My Dreams: this is a brownish, reddish polish with a glitter that looks almost pink. Really, really pretty!  2 layers:

Candy Is Dandy: a light pink textured polish with silver holo glitter. I really liked this one! 2 layers:

I Lilac Gumdrops: A light lilac purple with silver shimmer. 2 layers:

Blue-berry Sweet On You: a denim blue textured polish with shimmer. Really pretty! 2 layers:

A-nise Treat: a sparkly black textured polish. In real life, this looked nice and covered, but in this picture I think I should have used a 3rd layer of polish:

My Cherry Amour:  a cranberry red with fine holographic glitter that dries to a textured finish. Beautiful! 2 layers:

In this blurry shot, you can see that holographicness peeking through:

What do you think of these colors? Are you still on board with the whole texture trend? I truly love textured polishes for their longevity- nothing lasts longer on my nails!

Nicole By OPI Limited Edition Mini Neon Sets

                                                                                                                                          Press Sample

Good morning, friends!  Today I have some new limited edition, mini neon sets from Nicole by OPI to show you!

Some info from Nicole by OPI's press release:

Nicole by OPI launches its first neon nail lacquer with two limited edition mini kits. Scandalous! Neons includes vivid shades of blue, purple and pink while the Notorious! Neons includes vibrant shades of green, fuchsia and orange.
Each Neons kit includes a special white base coat, to be applied before adding color, allowing true neon pigments to pop. These kits offer the hottest hues in a mini size to complement summer styles,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “Think of your nails as a blank canvas.  With these color combinations, there are endless options for creating works of art.”

Here's some swatches from the first set, Notorious Neons!  I did 2 layers of the white, and then topped that with each of the neon colors. I did need about 2-3 layers of each of the neons, as these are on the sheer side. The "Fuchsia Neon" (middle finger) was my favorite from this half:

And here's the colors from "Scandalous Neons" set. These colors were a bit less vibrant than the first half, but still pretty and definitely bright. Again, I did 2 layers of white and topped each with 2-3 layers of each neon. How pretty is this blue??!

I usually hate mini sized bottles, but these ones from Nicole by OPI have a nice long handle that made applying the polish with them easier.  The white polish was surprisingly nice too, making it a perfect base color for these neons.

Some parting info from Nicole by OPI:

Nicole by OPI formulas are long-lasting, fast-drying, and salon-quality.   Scandalous! Neons and Notorious! Neons mini packs will be available in stores beginning May 2013 for $10 each at retailers including Meijer, CVS, Duane Reade, H-E-B, Kroger, and ShopKo.  Top Coat Plus will be sold alongside the kits for $7.99. In Canada, the kits will be available for $12.50 each and Top Coat Plus for $10.99 at Loblaw, Jean Coutu, Rexall, London Drugs, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Twinsie Tuesday- Revisited

Hi friends! Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is revisiting a past challenge that we particularly enjoyed. I went with polka dots, since I never get sick of doing those- the color combinations are endless and it's such an easy effect to create!

For my dotticure today, I used Duri "The World Is Mine" for the base color. I used "On The Wild Side" for the green dots and "Think Out Loud" for the hot pink:

This color combo reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake (the doll!)  ;-)

Different Dimension Nail Polish (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Products in this post were provided for review.

Good morning, fellow nail polish hoarders!  Today I have 3 polishes from the indie brand Different Dimension to share with you. I had a great experience with these polishes- the formulas on these are all fabulous and the colors are super cool to boot.

First up is Excelsior, a white-gray holographic polish. Um, this color is freakin' fantastic! It's a nice neutral color, but the holographic quality makes it so fun. This is immediately making it into my "Top 10" list of 2013- it's that special. I'm gonna need multiples of this! 2 layers shown here.

Next, I topped the lovely Excelsior with the glitter, To Infinity And Beyond (inspired by Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, of course!). This glitter has a clear base with neon green, holographic green, white, and purple glitters. It also glows in the dark, however I did not get a good picture of that :)

Last, we have Reach For The Sky, the second half of the Toy Story inspired duo. I loved that when I showed this to my 5 year old son and told him the name of it, he instantly said- "Oh, like Woody!!". He recognized the phrase immediately, and noted that this is the color of Woody's shirt. Major props to Missi, the brand creator for totally nailing it!  This has a jelly yellow base with a mix of large and small red glitters and some larger yellow squares. So cute! 3 layers shown:

These beauties can be found here on Different Dimension's Etsy Shop, along with tons of other gorgeous offerings too! Like them on Facebook for all the latest updates on collections as well!
