Some Halloween Manicures!

Hi friends! I had all sorts of Halloween themed nail ideas this year, but of course I am running out of time and only got to do a few (where did the month of October go!?). Here are some quick and easy Halloween nails!

For this first one, I used the "latex finish" black, Cleopatra,  from last months' Julep Maven box, and added shiny tips (using a regular top coat). I was itching to use my new dotting tools in different sizes, so my accent nail is a combo of colors from Duri, with varying sized dots:

Next is a more subtle Halloween-y look. I used OPI I'm Feeling Sashay (Miss Universe Collection) as a base, and China Glaze Boo-gie Down, a clear base with white, black, and copper glitter pieces (from their Monster's Ball Halloween collection):

Are you wearing anything special on your nails for Halloween tomorrow?

Twinsie Tuesday: Space Inspired

Hello, dear polish friends! Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is "Space Inspired". I went with some stars on a black, sparkly sky. I wasn't 100% loving how this came out, but what can you do?  I used an app to put some fake stars on my hands:

Do the stars on my  hand distract you from my wonky nail art stars?? Hope so! :)

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsie's Space themed nails!

Rainbow Honey: The Final Battle Collection (Nail Polish Pictures & Review)

Press Sample

Indie nail polish brand Rainbow Honey has a new collection out for Fall that is inspired by the video game Final Fantasy VII. I have 3 from the collection to share with you today!

First, a little info from Rainbow Honey:

"The Final Battle brings us 15 new shades inspired by Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII. Often touted as “the game that sold the PlayStation,” FFVII was a long and grueling gaming experience full of heavy thematic elements and strife. The game touches on eco-terrorism, over-industrialization, and the expectations and challenges we battle over the course of life. With a cast as varied as the enemies they encounter, there was no shortage of inspiration here!
Part I, The Battle, plays off of some of the main elements of the game: the heroes and the ultimate faceoff between the Planet’s Lifestream and the Meteor; Phoenix Down is a nod to the recurring battle item throughout the Final Fantasy series.
Part II, The Summons, depicts five of the attacks used by the beasts and monsters summoned in the game - a crucial part of any important battle!
Part III takes its name from The Weapons created by the Planet as a form of self-defense. These bio-mechanical monsters were massive and powerful and I have taken the chance to create a durable and colorful interpretation of each one. They are smooth, shine bright with metallic shimmer, and make a great base for the many glitters in this collection."

Soldier- pewter glitter topper (shown here- 1 layer over black):

Tidal Wave-jelly aqua base with holographic glitter (3 layers shown here):

Emerald Weapon- dark shimmery green-blue (2 layers shown):

Twinsie Tuesday: Weather Inspired

Hello there! Long time no post. Well I'm back today with our latest "Twinsie Tuesday" theme which is Weather Inspired!  I went with a little thunderstorm themed manicure.  I am one of those weirdos that loves rain and I was completely happy with "rainy season" when I lived in the Pacfic Northwest too .  Here we have a cloud, some raindrops, and a lightening bolt:

I used China Glaze Immortal for the base color and nail art pens for the rest (did you notice that my cloud has a "silver lining"? ;-)

Be sure to check in with the other gals this week too!

OPI Launches Two New Gift Sets For Holiday 2013 (Nail Polish Pictures & Review)

Press Sample

Howdy! Today we are gonna talk about 2 new awesome gifts sets that OPI is releasing for Holiday 2013. It's kind of scary how fast the holiday season is creeping up on us. I mean, it's almost Halloween and you know how everything just speeds up after that!

The first gift set is called Top This! and it features 3 full sized top coats; one 'regular' top coat, one matte top coat, and exclusive, *only available in this set* glitter top coat called Snowflakes In The Air :

First, here's the original OPI Top Coat over black (OPI Onyx):

Next, I did one layer of Snowflakes In The Air over black. This glitter topcoat has silver glitters in different sizes that flash a gorgeous, multi-colored sparkle when the light hits them just right:

And lastly, I topped 'Snowflakes...' with the OPI Matte Top Coat. OMG! I really am in love with this particular look. The matte top coat sort of tamed the mulit-colored-ness of the glitter, making them appear mostly plain silver. This is a really fun way to wear glitter:

The second gift set is called Take Ten and it features 10 mini sized polishes (now sporting mini Pro wide brushes for the first time) in classic, best selling OPI shades:

The top row has all the soft, neutral tones (colors are Pirouette My Whistle; Alpine Snow; Bubble Bath; Tickle My France-y; and You Don't Know Jacques), while the bottom row includes some darks and reds (Cajun Shrimp; Big Apple Red; Malaga Wine; Lincoln Park After Dark). OPI really thought of everything with this set and they even gave you the option of separating the packs for easy gift giving- both sets can be removed separately:

Because I've already swatched a majority of these polishes on my blog in the past, I didn't swatch them this time around. (Hint: Top Ten may pop up in a giveaway very, very soon! Be on the look out!)

What are your thoughts on OPI's newest Holiday gift sets?

Some parting info from OPI:

Take Ten and Top This! will be available October 2013, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com. Take Ten retails for $24.95 ($29.95 CAN), and Top This! retails for $27.00 ($32.85 CAN).

Julep Maven October Box || Bombshell (Nail Polish Pictures & Review)

Hello there! Today I am sharing some pictures of my latest Julep Maven box. October's box (I went witht the "Bombshell" style this time around" came with 2 polishes, a double ended kajal eyeliner and sharpener. I also chose an "add on" this month because I needed the awesome black & gold glitter:

Mmmmm...candy corns

First, here's the Kajal eyeliner- one end is black, the other brown. I was actually very impressed with this product!  I've used both colors and they glide on effortlessly and STAY, especially on the waterline (which is an infamously difficult feat). I love that Julep included a compatible sharpener, since I've found from experience, some other sharpeners are NOT "one size fits all brands".

Onward to the polishes!

Here's Cleopatra, which is a fabulous "black latex" finish polish. I expected this to be similar in texture to a matte polish, which tends to be on the thicker side, but I was pleasantly surprised by it's thin, easy to work with texture. This is 2 layers of polish here (no top coat, so that the rubbery, waxy finish stays):

Valerie is a deep, dark teal with a fine gold shimmer. Totally lovely for Fall (2 layers):

Beatrix is clear based glitter with a mix of black and gold (one layer on top of Valerie):

I really love when I LOVE everything in my monthly box. This one was completely awesome!  If you are unfamiliar with the Julep Maven program, here's how it works- each month you get a box of polish and other beauty items mailed to your home for $19.99. You have options, so you're not ever going to be stuck with something that you don't like. You always have the option to "Skip" the month as well if you want.  You can also earn points (to be used towards purchases) for referring friends to the program. If you'd like to try this out yourself, you can use my referral link here  and enter the promo code "FREEBOX" to get your first month for free- yes, totally free with no strings attached (you can call to cancel at any time).  This is a great way to try Julep out for yourself! (Disclosure: I earn points for each friend I refer).

How do you feel about this month's box?
